Help[Facts] French footballers
I've noticed two names in the French squad that interest me. First, Ribery's first name is given usually as Franck and sometimes as Frank. When I was a student I had a German friend named Franck ... is this something that happens in Europe in general? Or is he a typo? (I can see that a French child named Franc would have a rough time, and I don't know that K is much used in French.)
And then the thoroughly surprising Lilian Thuram ... has anyone come across any other males, French or otherwise, named Lilian? He is black, though I don't know where his roots lie, which might or might not be significant.

Well, I'm amazed! Thank you, Poppylena ... I never even thought to look. Problem remains, though: it must have come from somewhere. (It's very like the Boy Named Sue, isn't it ... if M Lilian wasn't a top sportsman he just might encounter a few problems.)

Yup, Franc isn't used as a name although now we said byebye to the francs :(

Lilian isn't used in French, so I suppose it comes from his roots. Liliane here is a female name, by the way.
