I’m torn on these two names.
Do you think
Geneva is too placename-y? According to this site
Geneva is “[p]ossibly a shortened form of GENEVIÈVE or possibly from the name of the city in Switzerland.” I tend to view
Geneva as a derivative of
Genevieve although I’m sure I’m influenced by the fact I have no connection to
Geneva the place and am hesitant to bestow a child with the name of a place about which I know little. However I think most others would hear
Geneva and think “city in Switzerland” and not “shortened form of
Genevieve.”
Sometimes I think
Errol sounds dashing and handsome, no doubt influenced by the association of
Errol Flynn which is odd considering I’ve personally never found him particularly handsome. Other times I think it sounds like a slurred utterance, something one would mutter when drunk or when woken up several hours earlier than normal. I also think it could be easily confused with
Earl, a name I dislike.
So, WDYT?
