[Opinions] Rhys / Rice
Okay before I looked up how to say Rhys I always thought it was pronounced Rice and I loved the way it was spelt and the way it sounded. Do you think having Rhys pronounced "Rice" but spelt R-H-Y-S is ok? I mean, I mispronounced it so maybe others will agree it's that pronounciation.-Kaylen (aka Kay!)

I love Rhys as REES. If you want it to be said like "rice" you should spelling it Rice or Reiss.

No. If you want the pronunciation to be "Rice", then spell it as such.

I don't particularly care for the RIES pronunciation, however while the proper pronunciation is REES, I myself pronounce it RIS (like Chris without the C).The reason for this though is because I have an acquaintance named Rhys and this is how he pronounces it.

No, absolutely not . . .The fact that you mispronounced it doesn't mean that it's ok to perpetuate the mispronunciation! Not to mention that the majority of people don't think that Rhys is pronounced "rice", so if you pronounced it that way for a son, your son would be constantly correcting people and having to explain that Mummy changed the pronunciation or used the wrong one (making you look stupid, I'm afraid, sorry).Rhys pronounced "reese" is much better imo. It's a nice name when spelled and pronounced correctly!

Well, if the "rice" pronunciation is what you like, I'd go with a spelling like Reiss, personally.Otherwise, use it as a middle name. :) I understand liking a name better as the mispronunciation--for example, Isobel pronunced ee-SOH-bul is still a pleasure of mine, though not one I'd use. In the middle name slot, you can do whatever you like--go wild there.Array
