[Facts] pronounciation of the scottish form of Mairead and Maighread
Replies
Accordinhg to Namenerds the pronuciation is 'MY-rut'
"Mairead; Mairearad MY rut; MEH rut; MY ru rut"
http://www.namenerds.com/scottish/scotformchick.html
and according to the Celtic Names of Britain and Ireland the pronuciation is 'MAY-ret'
"Mairead — (MAY-ret or MA-ee-rat)"
http://www.daire.org/names/celtscotfem.html
Either way it appears that the final 'd' is pronounced as a 't' and the pronuciation guides I can find for Scottish Gaelic back this up.
