[Opinions] Cynthia or Cecelia?
Which name do you prefer, Cynthia or Cecelia? I thought Cynthia with the occassional nn of Thia would be really cute. I like Cecelia with the nn of Celia, but I really, really dislike Ceci. I also really, really dislike Cindy for Cynthia.
Anyway, which name would you choose, and why? And also why if you don't like either name.
Thanks!
(BTW, I have a son named Wesley.)

I love Cecilia. I also like Celia, but not Cecelia; it just looks wrong for some reason to me. :b But I still prefer Cecelia to Cynthia. Nothing wrong with Cynthia, it just seems dated to the 1960s and 70s to me while Cecilia is more old-fashioned/classic and not as "date-able".

I like Cecelia and Cynthia both, actually. (And I also like Cecilia; both spellings appeal to me.) I don't, however, like how Thia looks--like "thigh." Ugh. And it just sounds contrived to me. Perhaps Cinda as a nickname? Or just Cynthia on its own. :)For Cecelia/Cecilia, my favourite nickname is definitely Cili/Celie (SEE-lee), but that might be alternatively too much like "cilia" or too The Colour Purple for you. Celia is nice, too, but it seems like a full name in itself; I can't quite reconcile it as a nickname. In the end, I think I'd pick Cecelia for you, since you don't want a Cindy and that nickname's associated so strongly with Cynthia. For me, I think I'd choose Cynthia today--but I like Cindy (or Cyndi, which makes more sense, honestly).Array

I totally disagree. I think YOU can creat any nickname you wish. The issue arises when other's come up with their own. So I think you can definitely call Cynthia Thia, but Cecelia will be called Ceci by some, even if it's not you!

Why would you say the topic has nothing to do with the subject? We are discussing Cecelia vs Cynthia...
Sorry about the name thing. After posting the first response, I noticed no one used their last name. Sorry!

You answered the post by posting under someones reply instead of under the original post, this can get confusing as the post you put your message under didnt mention anything you were talking about.
You are only meant to post under someone elses reply if you are addressing them not the original poster.
Hope that makes sence

Post under one name only please, Lisa / Lisa MartinIt is a strict rule on this site that you must use exactly the same name in the 'Name' box every time you post. Please observe this rule in future. Also, I think you may have posted this reply in the wrong place as it doesn't relate to the post above it.

Cynthia seems a bit more attractive and substantial to me. It's less "in vogue" too, so it'd be more memorable. I like Celia, though, as well; it's friendlir. And I don't believe you could manage to have a Cynthia go by Thia. It's too artificial. - mirfak

Just wondering about what you mean by artificial...do you mean it's a stretch to get Thia from Cynthia?
I love the nn Thea, but dislike Theodora or Dorothea. I thought Cynthia would be a great way to get a nn I find adorable, but give a nice, substantial name for an adult.

Cecelia , because it seems nicer when younger and older.
Cynthia is more an adult name.

I love the name Cecilia. Cecelia looks wrong to me, but it's ok I guess. I'm just not used to it.Cynthia is a nice name with a cool meaning and an attractive sound. Unfortunately it just seems a little dated and disco to me. It would probably be pretty cute though if I actually saw it in use. It's not so dated as to be unusable imo. And actually, it has that oh-so-appealing letter Y in there naturally! Maybe more people should be reexaming that name!

Cecelia is very, very weird to me... What about Cecilia?
Cynthia is nice, but not Thia imho. Celia is ok. Ceci and Cindy are nmsaa either.I would choose Cecilia without a nn.

See, and Cecilia just looks wrong to me! Funny how we are. I don't like it because it reminds me of cilia (sciency-thingies). Also, Celia looks like it should come from Cecelia.

I would choose Cecelia. I think its beautiful on its own. I also love CeCe, even though you dont. I think its cute on a little girl. I really dislike Cynthia.

I prefer Cecelia. Cynthia just seems too 80's to me. I don't know why. I would say that I prefer the spelling Cecilia, but since you plan on using the nn Celia, Cecelia is fine.

I prefer Cecelia. I think it's a cute name. In a movie there was a girl whos name was Cecelia and her nickname was Cessy (pronounced Sessy). I think it's cute!

I like Cynthia better coz it reminds me of a little girl I used to look after in a daycare centre, she was really cute. I prefer Thia too, I'm not a huge fan of Cindy. :(Cassie Anne (not Cassandra!)

I actually have a Cicelia so I obviously love the name. However, I will tell you that people will call her Ceci. I hate that nm too,and I NEVER use it, but everyone calls her that. All the neighborhood girls call her that. AND when she was first learning to talk, that is what she called herself. What do you do???? Sorry to put a damper on the name.
I also love the name Cynthia. We were tossing around that name for our second:)
