[Opinions] Lazarus
A family I know is expecting their ninth child, and the dad wants to name it (if it's a boy) Lazarus. I think it's absolutely awful, and so does the mom. Any opinions? The mom and I were also thinking of names like Thaddeus or Elijah. (All their boys have Biblical fns.)Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I ADORE Lazarus, it's pretty awesome name! I couldn't use it myself.Thaddeus is on my list, and so is Elijah.~* In Memory of*~: Elizabeth & Abigail Ramierez."We all go a little mad sometimes" - Norman Bates in Psycho

I adore Lazarus and would seriously consider using it for a child, especially with the nn Laz. :) I love the story of Lazarus in the Bible (all right, the Lazarus-from-the-dead story, since IIRC there's another Lazarus with leprosy, and that's not quite so cheery).Thaddeus is also quite nice (I like the nn Tad :), but Elijah's getting much too popular for my tastes. What are their other boys' names?Array

Other boys' names are...Micaiah, Gideon, Job, Silas, Isaac and Nicodemus. I really love most of those (not Isaac or Silas so much), so it's not really the oddity of Lazarus I don't care for as much as the sound of it.Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I actually find Lazarus quite nice, but I wouldn't use it myself. My favourite is Elijah, it's my nephews name so I'm a little biased. :)

Lazarus? Your kidding, right? Wait, don't answer that! (OK, a bit harsh, but I'm being brutally honet.) I perfer Elijah, but Thaddeus is OK, especially compared to Lazarus.

"...especially compared to Lazarus."First I snorted a bit to stifle a laugh, because Lazarus brings to mind a particularly entertaining passage from the book Johnny Got His Gun. Then I thought almost exactly what you just wrote. The mirth broke down into denial, then I got into bargaining. Anything but Lazarus, I thought. It's one of those names for me that makes the other options really look desirable.

Aww, I absolutely adore the name Lazarus! I plan on using it someday. It's easily one of my favorite boys names. Laz is such a cute nn.Thaddeus is great too, but Elijah has gotten popular to the point where it doesn't have much effect on me anymore.

if you have nine kids, you can take a chance on one. I say do it. it's not like it's coming out of nowhere if all the other boys have names with biblical references. and Lazarus is just cool.

I love it. I wouldn't use it myself, but not for any reason other than it not being high enough on my list. I would honestly be thrilled to see it in the BAs.

Lazarus is...interesting. But if the mother doesn't like it, and the father is dead set on it, they should come to some kind of compromise. Maybe use it as a middle name, or get a cat and name it Lazarus.-the warrior girl and her dragon lover-
