I love Amabel, but generally get negative responses to it on here.
I pronounce it AM-a-bel, exactly like Annabel but with an "m" sound.

I prn. it ah-mah-bel (the e of "bel" like in "air", not ul or il).
I like it, it's really better than Annabelle, which is overused.

Amabel's a very old name, and the original form of Annabel (no, it originally wasn't a combination of Anna and Belle, contrary to popular belief). I think it's a sweet name, with a good meaning and history behind it.It's pronounced AM-ah-bel. The MAY-bul pronunciation of its diminutive, Mabel, arose out of the fact that MAY-bul sounds better than MAH-bel as an independant name. At least, that's my own theory on that matter.I also like the medieval forms Amabilia, Amabilis, and Amabilla. Those are the historically correct documented forms, but I see no reason why my preferred spellings of Amabelia, Amabelis, and Amabella couldn't have been used from time to time too. I'd also like Amiable (another form), if it weren't a vocabulary word.Miranda

I'd pronounce it AH-ma-bell, or AMM-a-bell if instructed. Because the Ama- reminds me of Amalia. It's pretty. - chazda

I think Amabel is gorgeous! I pronounce it as AM-uh-bel. I much prefer it to Annabel or Annabelle, both of which remind me (for some reason) of cows. Amabel also has a lovely meaning.Shannon

I prefer Annabel, and in fact, I thought it was Annabel when I first read it - it may cause some confusion in its close resemblance. But Amabel isn't bad. I think the meaning - "lovable" - is great. Its not quite as charming to me as Annbel, though, on its own.I'd prn it AM - uh -bell
