I kind of feel the same way about Allison that I do about Kathleen, Charlotte, Bridget, and a number of other names: it's very nice, a respectable name that I can't see anything wrong with, and I totally wouldn't mind it on someone else's child. But for myself personally it doesn't mean fireworks or whatnot; I don't particularly get excited about it. All in all I'd call it a good name and I don't think it will sound dated.
