I think it's a cool, somewhat eccentric name, and a nice alternative to John. But it's bound to get mispelled a lot - I've seen Ioan Gruffudd's names spelled Loan in magazines probably more times than I've seen the name spelled properly.

Yes, that's a common issue here, but when he's a better known actor, nobody will get it wrong and it will be a household name - as it is in Whales. I always find myself reminding people on this board that it's an International Board.
