[Opinions] Sammy/Sammie/Sami
I love the nn Sammy for a girl, or any of the above spellings, but I'm not crazy about any of the names that would serve as a full name for Sammy. Do you think this name can stand on it's own? After all, plenty of nn's are now being used as fn's; Jack, Kate, Max, and Alex. Do you prefer Samantha, Samara, or Samaya? If none of those then what would you use? TIA, Emily

I don't like Sammy / Sammie etc - or any other nickname ending with an 'ee' sound - as a full name (of course, real names ending with the 'ee' sound like Mary and Lucy and Jeremy are fine).I prefer the Sammie spelling as a nickname for a girl (Sammy is more boyish to me), although the sound isn't really my style. As I said in the other thread, Samara is my preferred Sam- name for girls, as I don't like Samantha. There's also Samuella if you get desperate!I prefer Samma to Sammie as a Sam- nn.

I love the nn Sammy for a girl but I prefer it spelt Sammie. I don't like it as a full name, I think it's better as a nn. Names like Jack, Kate etc don't sound very nicknamey but then Sammy does. I would use it for Samantha. Anonther suggestion is Jessamine. Sure you don't say the 'sam' when pronouncing it but you can link Sammy to it as a nn.

I like Samantha but do not care for Sammy at all.

I think it can stand on it's own. Here in Australia there is a lady on tv called Sami (pronounced like Sammy). Samantha is definitely my fave Sam name that a nn could derive from.

I like Samara, but I like Samaire better. Also, I think it could stand alone, but it wouldn't look very professional later on in life, and they would need another name to fall back on.

I like Sam or Sami/Sammi too for a girl and on its own but so many people would always assume that its short for something. :)Cassie Anne (not Cassandra!)

Sammy is a cute NN fora small child; however, it does have the 'cutesy' connotations with it and I just can't picture a grown woman going just by Sammy. I like it as a nn for Samina and Salima.

My brother-in-law works with a Sammye Jo. And Sammye is her full name. I kind of think that's pretty.
