[Opinions] Alice or Matilda?
Which name do you like better, Alice or Matilda? I posted these names along with a few others, awhile back but I have decided that these two are my absolute favorite. We are TTC #2 right now, so I have plenty of time. A few questions:What middle names do you like best:Alice RubyAlice JulietMatilda JulietOther suggestions? Is either name likely to become popular? I hate the nn Ali, can I absolutely avoid this? I don't like any nns for Alice. I love the nickname Hildy for Matilda. Like it? Hate it? Tildy is okay, but I greatly dislike Mattie or Tillie.

I like both a lot, but my vote goes to Alice.I think Matilda is much more likely to become popular than Alice.Alice Juliet is very nice, though I think Alice Matilda would be gorgeous.I think Ali could easily be avoided for Alice. Harder for Alexandra, but it shouldn't be a problem for Alice.Hildy is atrocious IMO, sorry. I prefer Matilda with no nickname.

I really like Alice but have never warmed to Matilda. I like both Alice combos you've listed.

I love both names, they are such pretty, classic names, just gorgeous. I would have to say that I prefer Alice though, it's just lovely. Alice Ruby is my fave combo, as Ruby is also another fave name of mine. Matilda Juliet is also really nice. I don't know that either name will become popular, they don't seem to be getting talked about all that much. I think Matilda has more of a chance at becoming popular though, since Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams named their daughter that. I don't think Alice has to have a nn, it's not a super long name or anything. It's so pretty it doesn't need a nn. Hildy I hate, sorry. I prefer Tillie, but you mentioned that you don't like it.

Alice Ruby or Matilda Juliet :)**miss_smiley**

I prefer Matilda as Alice is too common and Matilda is more sophisticated. Another nickname could be Tilda. I like the French version- Mathilde. Some good combos-
Matilda Rose
Matilda Claire

I love both, but I love Alice more. It's such a beautiful name. Out of your combos, Alice Juliet is my favourite. It's just the perfect combo.I think Alice is short enough to not have any NNs at all, but if you insist on having one, how about Lisa or Liz?

Both are nice, but I've always really liked Alice. I think Alice Juliet is lovely. :) I've never known an Alice to go by Ali, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.-------

Just chiming in with what appears to be the general approval of both names. I love them.

Oh, such a tough choice :-) I love both, but I'd personally go with Matilda. I don't really care for Juliet, but the combo Matilda Juliet sounds nice. I really like Matilda Ruby though!

Thanks. Juliet is because my name is Julie. My son has my husband's first name as a middle name...I want to get in there somewhere! Heehee.

I love both Alice and Matilda. I think Matilda has a better chance of becoming popular (though I doubt it will become that popular. I like Alice Ruby and Matilda Juliet. If your Alice likes Ali, I don't see how you can avoid it. She may wish to be called that. Hildy is cute, but I automatically think of the gluing-hay-on-walls Hildy. My favorite nickname for Matilda is Millie.Other middle name suggestions:Alice Eleanor
Alice Genevieve
Alice Harriet
Alice Imogen
Alice Josephine
Alice Marguerite
Alice Millicent
Alice Violet
Alice Viola
Matilda Adeline
Matilda Beatrice
Matilda Eleanor
Matilda Emmeline

Matilda Jane
Matilda Josephine

Hmmm...I really like Matilda Violet! Cute, especially since my ggma's name was Violet.
I just hope that no matter what I name my daughter, she won't grow up to fill people's basements with sand or glue hay/fake flowers/record albums on people's walls. (Good grief that woman has no taste.)

Well, I love them both ...... and I might someday be naming my daughter Alice Matilda. So therefore I cant make up my mind which one you should choose. I don't like Tildy or Hildy as a nnn so I guess go with Alice. Alice Juliet is absolutely gorgoeus. Alice Ruby is very nice as well. Matilda Juliet is extremely beautiful. I guess if I had to pick from a favorite combo it would be Matilda Juliet. I just cant decide :P~Lisa~

Well you're no help! Hee hee, just kidding. Thanks for liking my names so much. I think Matilda Juliet might be my favorite. It has that special something to it that I am looking for.

I wouldn't predict either names becoming overly popular anytime soon. I like Matilda much better than Alice. I think it is safe to assume you can avoid the nn Ali for Alice. Alice is not too long or hard to pronounce-I would guess most Alice just go by Alice anyways. Matilda is sure to get a nn somewhere. I think I like Mattie best though. Hildy seems kind of butch to me. Not sure why. Tildy seems the same way. Matilda by itself is nice though. I would try my hardest to keep everyone calling her Matilda.

Thanks. I do prefer Matilda for everyday use...but I would like an occasional nickname, you know? I don't like Mattie because it is so popular, what with all the Madeline's etc. out there right now.

Both names are nice, but I love Alice. And Alice Juliet is stunning. Gorgeous! (Though that's not to say that I don't love Alice Ruby and Matilda Juliet also)I don't think Alice needs a nn, nor do I think It'd be likely that she'd get called Ali, really. Hildy is okay. It's not my cup of tea, but it's kind of cute. I just like Matilda plain and strong :)

I don't think Alice needs a nickname either. Thanks for agreeing!

I really like Matilda. It is really neat and I don't personally know any girls with this name. Hildy is a cute nn.

Thank you! I don't know anyone with this name either. I hear it more and more on birth boards, though.

Hmm... I think I like Alice a bit more right now. Don't worry about nn, Alice... its not really a nn name. As for combos... what about Alice Matilda? Alice Ruby is nice. Alice Juliet seems worn out, for some reason.Matilda is going to be more popular.Hildy for Matilda is kinds refreshing, though I prefer it for Hildegard. :-)

Thank you! Alice Juliet doesn't seem to flow as well to me for some reason. I don't know what you mean by worn out, but it just doesn't "pop" for me like the other two combonations do. I still like it, I think it is just third on my list, though.
Alice Matilda is sooo cute, but I do like to have a family name in there somewhere, which is why the middle names are Ruby (Dh's gma that just passed away)and Juliet (my name is Julie).

Whats your other childs name? I love Matilda, its getting really popular here in Australia at the moment though..Matilda Juliet is gorgeous!Alice doesn't have to have a nn. My brothers name is Christian and my mother almost didn't call him that because she feared that it would get shortened to Chris. He is 19 now and to this day he has only been called Chris twice and he didnt answer them.I love the nn Tilly but I dont really like HildyPhotobucket - Video and Image Hosting

My other son's name is Wesley. Wesley Ryan. Ryan is DH's first name. My first name is Julie, so I thought Juliet would be a neat middle name for our first girl. BTW, I love your signiture!

I think they are both great. What about Alice Matilda or Matilda Alice? We once had a guinea pig named Matilda, nn Millie. Matilda has been popular in Sweden for some time, and I think Alice is getting more popular now. I think Alice and Matilda are among the top 100 in UK, so it might catch on in USA too. What about Tilda as nn for Matilda? Tilda is rather popular in Sweden too as a name in its own right. I like Hildy but maybe spell it Mathilda then?I think Alice Juliet is very beautiful.I don't see why a nn for Alice is needed. But if you call her Alice all the time and correct people trying to call her Ali, maybe she will continue to call herself Alice. But there are not guarantees, once she has started school
- She said he made a racial slur!
- Racial? She is Swedish!
- Maybe he called her Meatball."I’ve given it a lot of thought, and I’ve decided to be spontaneous."

I agree that these two names are getting more and more popular elsewhere. Of course, I live in the between Tryndeeville and Kreatyvtown, so I don't think it'll happen here.
