I think of John Avis...a kid in my class - Avis was his last name. ANd I cant see it on a girl because I think of him, he went by Avis. I was surprised to see that it is actually a first name and feminine in the database~~Kris~~

I don't like Avis at all. It's the name of a car company I think, here in Australia. Ava, while popular, is far more pretty.

Reminds me of the car rental company.

Car hire company . . .I wouldn't mind Avis if it wasn't the name of a major international car hire company, but that's all I can think of when I see it. It doesn't feel first-name-y at all.

I don't care for Avis to be honest. It reminds me of a clothing company, airline company, or some other type of corporation. I prefer Iva as an alternative to Ava.Avis Marie

I've known only two.
The first was pronounced AVE-is (like the car rental company).
The second was AV-is (same sound as the word avid). She would glare severely at you if you mistakenly pronounced her name AVE-is. I don't know whether it matters, but this second Avis was from Texas -- maybe this pronunciation is more common there. Well, here -- I AM in Texas, but I knew this Avis in Colorado.
Anyway, I like the name well enough, but there might be confusion over pronunciation, especially because the name's not common.

Makes me think of the car rental company, and aviation, and avaries. :b We used to have neighbors with a little girl named Avis, a sweet little African-American girl, but that's the first time I ever saw it used in "real life". It's not horrible, but it's just not a favorite.

Dispite the popularity of Ava, I still love it, and I probably prefer it over Avis. Either way, Avis is nice. Here are some combos:
Avis Elizabeth
Avis Samantha
Avis Marina
Avis Annabel
Avis Olivia
Avis Georgia
Avis Carolina
Avis Caroline
Avis Katrina
People, in general, would rather die than forgive. It's that hard. If God said in plain language, "I'm giving you a choice, forgive or die," a lot of people would just go ahead and order their coffin.
