I definitely don't like it for a girl. I generally only like surname-y names on boys, and the fact that I know several male Lawtons kinda cements it as a masculine name for me.

the chain of drug stores around here are named Lawtons Drugs. I defentialy don't like at all :(

Hmm. The sentence "What's your lot in life?" comes to mind. Basically It seems like two words slurred together rather than a name to me. Just Law might be kinda cool though. But maybe better on a boy.

Do you live along the West Coast in the USA, in Colorado, or in western Pennsylvania? Those are parts of the USA where almost everyone would pronounce "lot" and "Lawt" the same way. To me they have distinctly different sounds.

I prefer Leighton, which has a similar feel to me.
