I prefer Beverley, and I prefer it on a boy, since the first Beverly / Beverley I knew about was the male child narrator of L.M. Montgomery's "The Story Girl". It's a nice name, although I wouldn't use it myself.

Shirley is adorable, and while I can't use it (I have a relative named Shirley, and with a few definite exceptions I don't use family names), I would be very happy to see it on a little girl.
