Its not bad, I used to know a girl named Hunta she was really cute (she was 2 at the time)

It would be a great name for a model, actress or other famous person. I do see the charm here, but I think it may be hard to carry off. It would probably work in my area though. Texas- we wear camo even when we aren't hunting down here. :)

I have mixed feelings about Hunter for a girl. I know a girl named Hunter, but I absolutely love it for a boy.
Keep in mind, Hunter's usage is going back to becoming nearly all male. Hunter has completely fallen off the Social Security top 1000 charts for girls, and is stil extremely popular for boys, in 2005 alone, there were 8,384 boys named Hunter. To me, it seems every unfair to name a girl a name that is not unisex anymone, but has gone back to the boys.

I have a little niece named Hunter Grace. Her nickname is Hunny. I wasn't too wild about it at first but you know how names grow on you. Since the name is her mother's maiden name it really does fit and it is sweet on her.
I think that it sounds good with one syllable girl names like Grace, Jane, Anne etc.

Hunter isn't my style for a boy or a girl, but if it has to be used on a girl then I would prefer a classic, feminine middle name--because those are the kinds of female names that I like, and I think it'd be merciful to give a female Hunter something else to fall back on in case she'd prefer it. So I'd suggest something along the lines of:
Hunter Elizabeth
Hunter Catherine
Hunter Rose
Hunter Eleanor
Hunter Miriam
Hunter Evelyn (though it's unisex, my connotation is mostly feminine)
Or whatever. They all look wrong to me, though; Hunter for me is so far an entirely masculine name. :-/ Looking at those names is about the equivalent of contemplating a James Elizabeth, John Catherine, or a Robert Eleanor to me.
Lainey is kind of sweet. I'd prefer it as a nickname for Elaine, Laine, or something like that instead of a full name. I think I might like Leni more, though, short for Helena or Magdalene or something.

Hunter on a girl seems so Dallas to me - a sheltered white girl from new money. That image aside, it's not the worst humble-occupation-surname used on females. It benefits from things like classical huntresses (Diana) and other fantasy images. In some accents it could be made a bit unattractive because it becomes "Hun'er." I personally would rate it above Lavender and Mason, and below Clover and Avery - about a 3.5 on a scale of 1 to 10. It's not particularly appealing to me, but I think I could call a woman Hunter without squirming.
Elissa is nice - I recently met a woman with this name. She's about 45-50. I prefer Alyssa, though. Lainey is another Dallas-y name to me - it seems kind of 80s, even! I like it a shade better as Lanie, a nickname for Elaine or another name with the "lane" sound.

Hunter is too blood-soaked for either sex for me, but for a girl, I find it woefully unattractive.
Elissa reminds me of a girl in my cultural anthropology class--she's the one where it's hard to figure out how the hell she got into college. Not a great association. Lainey's fine as a nickname (I prefer the full name Lain), but as a full name, it's twee-sounding.

Elissa is very pretty, but it might be mispronounced and misspelled often, and I love Lainey, especially as a nickname for Alaina. :)

I'm going to be harsh here and say I really, really hate it. I would not want people to think of animal killing when they looked at my precious daughter. Have you ever been hunting? Have you ever had to clean an animal? *Shudder.* Not something that I feel should be associated with any child, but particularly not a girl.
Elissa and Lainey aren't my style, but they don't evoke the same visceral response that Hunter does. I would prefer Elise and Elaine, nn Lainey.
