[Opinions] Quaid
Have you ever heard the name Quaid (m) before, and what do you think of it?
ETA: And also, what about Tommy? Not Thomas or Tom, but Tommy? Do you think it's too painful seeing this on a grown man?

Quaid just makes me think of Dennis and Randy Quaid. Or quail. :-/
Tommy is not a great idea as a formal name, but I'm not fond of nickname-y names without a name to fall back on, in general. BTW, I have a long time friend whose given name is Tommy Micheal (yes, his mn is misspelled on his birth certificate), and he goes by Thomas. He hates Tommy. :b

I have heard of Quaid, but it's nms and it's too heavily associated with Dennis Quaid. I dislike the name Tommy to be honest. Tom is ok, but Tommy sounds overly juvenile.
I've only heard Quaid as a surname. It reminds me of Dennis and Randy Quaid, particularly Randy Quaid wearing a green dicky (dickie?) under a white sweater in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. :-D I don't think I'd like to see it as a first name.
I'd rather see Tommy as a nickname for Thomas (though I prefer Thomas without a nickname). I think an adult would appreciate being able to choose between Tommy and Thomas, just like I'd think a Katie would like the option to be a Katherine and a Lainey would appreciate the choice of going by Elaine instead.

Dennis Quaid is my immediate reaction, but Quaid itself isn't that bad of a name. Not anything I'd personally use though.
Tommy isn't bad, either, though I have bad associations with Thomas and Tom. Actually, Tommy still makes me think of the association, now that I think about it. It's a nice name, but I just couldn't use it myself. I think a grown man would eventually change Tommy to Tom anyway, so I don't think it would even be used on someone once they got older.

I think of Dennis Quaid, and he really isn't a hot selling point for me.

ETA: Tommy's fine on a grown man if it's a nickname.
