Milou is a contraction of the names Marie and Louise, a kind of nickname, if you will. Prince Friso and his wife, Mabel, recently used it as one of the names for their little girl who was named after a 17th/18th century princess, Marie-Louise, Princess of Orange (also called Milou).

I thought it was a cute little contraction of a name and not too bizarre of one, however I didn't know if it would have enough substance to pass as a first name or if it were doomed to nickname-only status.
