er, Jonna? Which ever.
I have 2 questions for you.

1/ Do you picture a 'slightly large' woman when you hear this name because of the association with Jonna the Whale?

2/ How do you like 'Johanna' spelt best?

Johanna and Jonna come from the same root but they sound completely different. Johanna is jo-HAN-uh or yo-HAN-uh depending on your background, whereas Jonna is just JON-uh.

I've never heard of Jonna the Whale so I would never associate the name Jonna with whales. I think of a friend from uni named Jonna.

The only spelling I like for Johanna is, well, Johanna. I also like Joanna which is of course pronounced differently.

Johanna was, I think, my grandmother's name. the "I think" is because she was always called Hannah. however, *she* always insisted it was johanna, and I suppose she'd know. (she was orphaned young.)

One of my great-great-grandmothers was a Johanna, if I recall correctly. She lived somewhere in northern Europe - Germany, Poland, former Czechoslovakia or Austria, but I can't remember which!

My Grandmother came from Cape Breton (Nova Scotia) (Canadian province,as I'm sure you know.) the family was one generation out from Scotland, She could speak Gaelic, even.

1. I picture a very fit woman. actually I picture Johanna Nilsson. she's a swedish runner that won the NCAA cross country championships last year.

I don't know who Jonna the Whale is. Are you refering to the Biblical tale of Jonah in the belly of the whale?

I like Johanna spelled traditionally, this way.

The only "Jonna the Whale" association I can think of is the whale who swallowed Jonah. Jonah was not the name of the whale.

Johanna- I would prn. it Jo-Hawn-ah. Jonna would be like JOHN-ah. Jonah would be JO-nah.

I am just very confused, but to answer your question none of these names makes me think of a fat lady....

1/ Jonna the what-what? Considering that I have never heard of Jonna the Whale before and could not find it on Wikipedia, I think it's safe to assume that it's a pretty obscure reference.

2/ Johanna is the spelling I like best if you're saying yoh-HAH-nah. I like Johnna if you're just saying JOHN-ah.
