According to Eileen Root's Hawaiian Names, English Names, Kini is the "Hawaiianized" form of Ginny and so is used as the equivalent of Virginia in Hawaii. There is a Hawaiian word kini which means "a multitude", but that probably wouldn't have been used as a name if it wasn't "transliterating" Ginny in Hawaiian.
