It reminds me of Flannery O'Connor, which earns it points for me, but I can't say I'd ever use it.

How nice that someone as young as you are knows who Flannery O'Connor was! :)

I completely associate this name with her myself. I don't think that in the USA the association with flan would be a problem at all. I would think in America any teasing the name inspired would be about flannel.
