Matty: This spelling makes me think it's a nn for a boy named Matthew, honesty. But I can easily see this spelling used for a girl named Matilda (though I prefer Tillie), but Matilda isn't common at all here in the U.S.

I'd assume that Mimi was short for Miriam, since I know someone with the name.

I'd assume Matty was short for Madeline or Madison, even though the spelling is different.

MIMI: I would assume it was short for anything beginning with M (the way Kiki works with anything starting with K and Gigi works with anything starting with a G), or else for Lucia, if the parents were opera fans (as in La Boheme).

MATTY: Matty, I would assume would be a Matilda. I prefer the spelling Maddie (in which case, I'd assume she was Madeline or (ugh) Madison), because the two are completely interchangable in my accent.

I would guess that Mimi was a nickname for Mary and that Matty was short for Mathilda. I prefer the spelling Mattie, but it's nms in general.

I like Mimi as a nn for Amelia.
I don't like Matty at all, in any spelling (makes me think of tangled matted hair) but my preferred full name for it would be Mattea.

I would think Mary first then Miriam for Mimi; I really dislike Matty, though, especially in its closeness to super-trendy Maddy, but I would think the full name Matilda / Mathilda, which I do like.

Mimi I associate with Miriam or maybe Milena. Matty is doesn't seem to be a nn of a girl name to me - I dislike it in general.
