Don't like both of them

I love the name Melissa! Melanie is nice in my opinion but nothing that I'm excited about.

This is so weird-I was JUST thinking about Melissa last night and what a pretty name it is. I do know two of them that are my age so that kind of stops me from using it-one in particular that I now have a bad association with. But I think the name is just so sweet and pretty and I like the nickname Lissa too.

Melanie is pretty too although I prefer Melissa.

I know about 10 Melissas rather well, and I work with 3, so it's definitely an overused name in my little circle. :-/ I don't see it as fresh or new yet. Maybe in 30 years or so. :b

ETA: I prefer Melanie to Melissa, but it's still very 1970s-80s to me. Though it does have a slightly more old-fashioned feel than Melissa, probably just because of "Gone With The Wind" though.

Melanie doesn't appeal to me very much, but it's not horrible.

I like it. but I associate it with the 1980's/early 1990's. Maybe it can make a comeback. I have a doll that I've had for about 14 years named Melissa.

Melissa is pretty and I like the nn Mel (especially for a man). Wouldn't like any nn for Melissa though.

I've known too many Melissas to really care for the name. It's very '80s to me, and very dated. Melanie is less so, but I really don't care for the name. Neither are cringe-worthy, though, and they're pretty enough.

Melissa is on a different timescale where I live - it wasn't popular at all for girls my age (I'm 20 now) but it came into the top 1000 in the 90s and is still going strong.

It doesn't feel dated to me (though one day it probably will) and I find it very pretty. I really dislike Mel, which is an obvious downside, but Lissy would be lovely. Missy sounds bratty to me for some reason.

I had a best friend named Melanie in high school and she was the only one I knew. It reminds me of "Gone with the Wind" as well. I like it best as Melany.

I really love Melissa, it's got such a sweet, delicate sound to it. Plus my best friend in primary school was named Mellisa, and although I don't like that spelling, the sound of the name is special to me.

Melanie doesn't appeal to me - I don't like 'ee'-sound endings very much, and Melanie really is too 80s-trendy. It also has no nn alternatives to Mel.

The Mel sound is just unappealing to me. It's not feminine at all.

Melissa is much prettier.
