[Facts] What is Muffie a nickname for?
I've heard it, and I can't figure it out.

well. I have to agree with you all but usually the name has come up when someone as a baby can not pronounce a simple name and it sounds muffled or like "muffie". it could also be a derogatory name for a oral sex that is performed on a woman. "muff dive"

It could be for just about any M name, or even any name with an M in it! I knew a Myfanwy who went by Miffy, which isn't much different.

I think I've heard it as a nickname for Margaret before

a friend of mine is named Meredith, but she goes by Muffie. I don't know, maybe it's just her. :-P

Maybe for Matthew or Mathilda?

The latter seems to make even more sense as the Portuguese form of Mathilda is Mafalda.Andy ;—)

Yes, but ... ... I think Summer_Katherine's right; it's a nickname rather than a derivation. She knows a Meredith; I was at school with a Marjorie-Anne whom the teachers called Marjorie but to everyone else she was Muffie. And that, her sisters said, was a first attempt at saying it by her elder brother!

Of course, it it's a nickname, it can be of any other name starting with an M (or not even that).Andy ;—)
