[Opinions] Embla?
Ok, so people have not liked Embla in polls.
Could you please give me your honest reactions to this (female) name, like over all impression, how it looks, sounds, what it makes you think of.... If it is all negative (which I won't take offense to), then why so?
Thanks a bunch in advance!

I like EmblaI like Embla!
And it's the name of the first woman in Norse mythology, which I think is cool. My brain did not make the leap to NAMBLA, but there's no accounting for what people associate. It makes me think of the word "emblem" or "ember" I like names beginning with "Em-" and Emma is all too common, unfortunately. I've being going with "Ember" as a replacement, but Embla could work well too, thanks for the idea :)

Thank you!Thank you all for your responses. I had never heard of NAMBLA, I agree it's not the kind of thing one wants people to associate to.
It was good to hear what you had to say. I kept considering this name eventhough people in Sweden don't tend to like it either, but I think I'll retire it, either altogether or to the middle name shelf/closet.

I love the name.Quite a bit, and have thought of using it in the past. However, it's too close to Emblem, and also what Array said. It's too bad, because it's a lovely name.

It makes me think, "Where's the 'matic' part?" As in "emblematic."

Honestly? It reminds me of embolism. Also, the "bl" sound is just grotesquely unattractive to my ears. Sorry.

I'm instantly reminded of the French word "emballer" (spelling might be wrong) meaning, "wrapped up". I live most of my life in French, so that wouldn't be everyone's reaction.

I really hate to say this...But it reminds me of NAMBLA.The North American Man/Boy Love Association (NAMBLA) is a New York City and San Francisco-based unincorporated organization that opposes the use of age as the sole criterion for deciding whether minors can legally engage in sexual relations. NAMBLA defends what it asserts to be the right of minors to explore their sexuality on a much freer basis.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NamblaNAMBLA = not good.Otherwise, I'd think it was fine, if not really my style. Of course, where you are, this wouldn't matter, but it really bothers me personally.Array

That was my thought, too!First I thought of the word "emblem" then I thought of NAMBLA. Anything at all that even slightly brings NAMBLA to mind is a definite "NO NO" in my book. :-/

Haha. Embla. Poor boy/girl.
Sounds like a variation of 'Ember' and 'Emily'. Or Amber.
In stead of yelling EMMMMMMMM-ELLY! it's like
EM-BLAAA. O:
