[Opinions] WDYTO Obadiah?
Obadiah has been one of my favorites for some time. I just wondered what everyone else thinks of it. Be as brutal as you want. :-) Thanks in advance!

I don't mind it. The meaning is great.

My first reactionis that the name has turned into a sort of joke. If I don't associate it first with Children of the Corn-type religious communities, I think of the show The Simpsons and the founder of their city: Jebediah Obadiah Zachariah Jedediah Springfield. Not that everyone's into The Simpsons, but the humorous aspect of stringing together a bunch of long 'iah' names isn't exclusive to one show. I'm having a hard time coming up with a decent explanation for how I think of it, but that'll have to do. It's a bit of a joke for me. Jeremiah, Zachariah, and probably others escape that sort of fate in my mind because they are, I'm under the impression, much more common. They sound "normal" and more familiar; other -iahs strike me as being kind of goofy.*shrug*

It sounds like a name for one of those crazy moonshiners that lives in the mountains on the Waltons. It has a very hillbilly type feel to it for me, for some reason. Sort of like how Jed on the Beverly Hillbillies was really named Jedidiah.

I like Jedidiah as well!

Oh-Bla-Di! Oh-Bla-Da! Life goes on--*incoherent noise*! La, la, how their life goes on!That's immediately what I think of, which isn't a bad association, IMO. I really like it, actually. :D I think Obadiah's fun, if not one I'd really go for myself. And among the Elijahs, Jeremiahs, and Isaiahs, I can't imagine Obadiah sticking out to the point of teasing.Array

I like it. I can see it being too "out there" but to be honest its not that different from Isaiah which is rising in popularity. I like the nicknames Obi and Oboe.Eleanor x

Not a fan, but it's not a terrible name. Obi as a nickname is cute.

Obadiah is a bit "too much" for me, even though I do love old-fashioned names. I think it's the "-iah" ending that gets me. Have you ever considered Obed? (pr OH-bed) It sounds similar, is also Old Testament biblical, and lacks the fussy ending. Unfortunately, I'm not sure many people recognize Obed as a name.

Obed is ok, but I prefer Obadiah! :-) Obed sounds too much like OH, bed! for me.

I prefer Ovadia, honestly.

Obadiah doesn't appeal to me at all.

I like it mostly because it has the possibility to use one of my fav nns: Obi. I like Obadiah on it's own, but it seems a bit heavy for a child to have. I like it a lot better than other Biblical boys names ending in -ah.

I like the way it sounds, seems cute, think Obbie would be a cute nn, but I just can't see using it myself...

While it's not a terrible name, I think it's gone a bit out of date. Definitely (and I'm sure I speak for a lot of others as well) nms!!!
