I say LEER-ah, like the word lyric.
I love it! I wouldn't use it, but it's gorgeous.

I pronounce it LIE-ra. It is pretty, but unfortunately looks a little too much like lycra to me. I don't like the LEER-a prn. To me leering is looking at someone in a, um, lascivious manner.
I would say leer-uh. I prefer Allira
LIE-ra
Being that the constellation is LIE-ra, I'd say likewise if the name was applied to a person. Lira to me is LEE-ra. Maybe I'd think otherwise if I didn't know what Lyra or lira were, but specific associations have pretty much sealed the pronunciations for me.

I agree.
I prn. Lyra like LIE-ra, and it makes me think of the constellation and of the character in the His Dark Materials trilogy. I really like it. =) I don't like the LEER-ah pronunciation at all.

Lyra is pretty. I tend to vary on the pronunciation, it looks like LY-ra, but I also say LEER-ah.
When I first heard of this name, I thought it was pronounced LYE-rah, which I like. But I've also heard it can be prn. LEER-ah, which just makes me think of Italian money. :b
*LOL*
Never thought of Italian currency! How funny!
Oh wait.
Shit.
Now it's ruined for me, I can see that link becoming permanently embedded in my consciousness...
;p

Sorry :b
LEER-ah
I think it's very pretty. There are several names on my favorites list with the same "lyre" root:
Allyriane (ah-leer-ee-ANN)
Lyriane (leer-ee-ANN)
Lyrien (LEER-ee-en)
Lyric (LEER-ik)
For the first three of these names, I like the nn Lyri (LEER-ee; yes, sadly, just like "leery" but I can't help that :p), but I don't think Lyric or Lyra need nn's, they're only two syllables already.
While I like Lyra it is my least favorite of these names. I do appreciate the other prn, which uses long I as in DYE (dye your hair), but for myself I prefer this one.

I pronounce it lear-a, but I think the correct pronunciation (or, at least, another common one) is lie-ra.
I think the name is very poetic (especially if you know the story behind Tanabata). I like it, and I would loooove to see someone use it, but I would never use it.

I pronounce it sort of like Lie ruh though am uncertain if this is correct .
LIE-rah sounds kind of like Liar. =/ just a note.
Lie ruh and Lie ur sound completely different to me but I understand what you mean because the pronounciation Leer uh has Leer in it which is very unattractive to my ears :)
Yeah the name isn't very good in my opinion, and it sounds more like currency. Either way, the name sounds like money or a bad personality trait. :X
ah, well.
ah, well.
Lyra, in my opinion, would be pronounced as LEE-rah. Like lyric, but with -a replacing the -ic.
It's not my style, but it's very pretty. I'd think of a long, elegant middle name [three syllables] to go with this.
