[Facts] Jewish names - some mistakes
I'm jewish, and I saw many misconceptions in the Jwish names list. I don't really know where to post my remarks - so I'll try here.
MARGALIT - is not hebrew for Margaret - it means a gemstone in hebrew.
ADAM - is the hebrew word for man, but moreover - it's the name of the first man on earth (in the bible).
ADI - doesn't mean "my jewel", but simply "a jewel".
ADINA - In hebrew it looks like òãéðä
ALIYAH- it may mean "ascension", but it really means "immigration to Israel".
AVI - also means "my father".
And so on... I can go on in this matter...

Attn. JoavHi, Joav,I too believe that the meanings of some Jewish names on this side are worth discussing. If you want, I would like to discuss some with you. You can email me at andyboy@holdenvillage.orgAndy :—)

The place to post your remarks is on the comments section of each name. On the right side of each page is the link "Contribute Information". There you can choose to leave a comment with the information you have. Also, you can click on the "Submit a Name" link on the BtN main page. It gives you the option to "Correct an existing name".

"ADAM - is the hebrew word for man, but moreover - it's the name of the first man on earth (in the bible)."How does this add to or change anything that is in the database?

AdamThe database states the meaning is "a man". It is not good enough, since "a man" in hebrew is used more as "Ben-Adam" (which means the son of Adam). So I think it is crucial to add the reference to the first man on earth.

From the Adam entry in the database:This is the Hebrew word for "man". It could be ultimately derived from Hebrew אדם ('adam) meaning "to be red", referring to the ruddy colour of human skin, or from Assyrian adamu meaning "to make". According to Genesis in the Old Testament Adam was created from the earth by God (there is a word play on Hebrew אֲדָמָה ('adamah) "earth"). He and Eve were supposedly the first humans, living happily in the Garden of Eden until Adam ate a forbidden fruit given to him by Eve..The reference seems pretty clear to me, so I'm curious about what else you think should be added to this explanation.

This is my bad.
When I browsed the database I saw only the 1st sentence from each - and I thought this is it. I didn't know this is so full...
I'll need to revise some of my suggestions.
