[Opinions] Earendel
Can i just ask how many people here are aware of the associations of the name Earendel without cheating and looking on google? ;-)I think it's really pretty, the stress is on the first syllable which is pronounced eer.
It's an old-english word, not really a name that's ever been used, but it means ray of light/bright star/brightness, depending on it's context.

I wasn't talking to you . . . (edited)And I don't appreciate the rude tone of your post.If you thought you were being unfairly targeted, you could easily have made a polite comment expressing the fact that you thought I was mistaken. There is no excuse for sounding pouty and bad-mannered.A quick check of the list of names would also have shown you that you had nothing to do with the matter.

*mumbles*A "quick" check could easily confuse Auriel, her name, with the Ariel listed . . . It's a fair enough reply; she thought she was being wrongly accused. You need to calm down; everyone is not out to get you, but you're sure acting like it lately. I know you have a lot going on, but you're the one being bad mannered more and more frequently.

It's spelled Eärendel, and it's from an Anglo-Saxon poem by the poet Cynewulf, where it refers to the Morning Star (in the context of the poem, the Morning Star is in itself a reference to John the Baptist).Tolkien used it (spelled Eärendil) as a part of his mythology. His character Eärendil is identified with Christ by Tolkien scholars. As a name I'm not too fond of it - the 'Ear' at the start is off-putting and it's just a little too weird. Middle name at the most!
