How old does it seem to you (and where do you live?) I would say early 30's. One Dana I know is 35, one is 29.
Any expectations of race, religion, ethnicity, class of someone named Dana? No-but usually I picture a Scandanavian type first!

First of all, I pronounce it DAH-na. So my answer will probably be completely irrelevant!
My cousins had a dog called Dana for about 16 years (until she died). So whenever I hear the name, I think of a dog.
Just recently I met a girl called Dana, and I can't help thinking to myself whenever I talk to her, "Why would you call your child a dog's name?"

I would say a Dana is probably a white person, Christian or Jewish, from Europe or America. From upper middle class to upper class. I picture her more from an educated & traditional family than from a very rich, upstart one, because I find the name elegant but discreet and not tacky at all.

I've known quite a few female Danas. It was relatively popular among my peers growing up. All spelt their name Dana except one who spelt it Dayna. They'd be between 25 and 35 now. I knew one male Dana who'd be about 28 now.
I've known and met enough Danas that I don't have a set perception of them.

Dana, being a "genunie unisex" name, is okay on either gender, but as with most unisex names, I personally prefer it on a boy. I have known a couple of female Danas from school, but no male ones (other than Dana Carvey). The name does not seem tied to any particular age group to me, and could work on any age. I cannot think of any "stereotypes" for a person named Dana, other than possibly being Danish (since one origin of the name means that).

I think the name sounds quite nice, but it's not a favourite or anything. I'd say it works on either gender, but I think of a middle-class North American woman, probably Christian for some reason.

I know a Daina I think she sp. it. She is 19 or 20 now with a twin sister Devin. I will always think of her, but I like the Dana sp best.
I havent known any guys, and I think she is the only girl I have met with the name (grew up in MN, worked at a camp in WI, and go to school in MI)
Dana doesnt seem old at all. Dana to me works at any age, and is still a great name. I dont really care for it, but in general, I think its one name that is great from age 1 to 90. Dana stills seems fresh to me. I also dont think its limited by religion, culture, or race, etc.

hi! Dana is a very common arabic name, and it means pearl in arabic. except it's pronounced Dan(like man) -uh. it's used for females only.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know there was an Arabic name Dana. I like that pronunciation for a female name.

Perhaps you wouldn't mind answering my questions about the Arabic name Dana, too - how strange would it be to find the name on a woman who was not of Arabic descent?

i don't think it would be weird at all to find the name Dana on a non-Arab woman, there are other Arabic names used on non-arabs as well, like Ayesha and Farah etc...
