Shonali is a bengali word meaning 'that which has the aspect of gold" or "which shines like gold", it orginates from Shonar (which means gold). i have never met a person named Shonali, but i guess its a girl's name. the hindi version of the name would be Sonali. hope that helps.

We speak marathi at home and in our language also Sonali is a popular name. it means like Spooky mentioned- one who has all the qualities of gold. it is a name for girls. Sonal is also a name on the same meaning
