Regan (ree-gan) has always been one of my favourite Shakespearean names for a girl (I love a lot of them), and it's making its way back up to "very favourite" status. WDYT of it?

Alyce Regan (Alyce with the Y is a family name, and actually a very old spelling, as old as Alice)
Calla Regan
Regan Helena (heh-layn-uh) or Elaina

I love it also! The combo Felicity Regan is one of my faves. I really like the combo Alyce Regan, since I would probably only use Regan as a middle name. However Regan Helena is nice also.

You have read King Lear, right? Not meaning to offend, just curious as to why you like the name for the Shakespeare connection when the character was so cruel.

You're right - Regan was a nasty piece of work. I didn't mean I chose the name in her honour - just that, of the many Shakespearean names I like, Regan is a favourite based on sound :-)

The main character in one of my favorite series of books is Regeane. I've always wondered which way it is pronounced.

Adara Regan (Maybe even Amara Regan)
Regan Helena (I like Helena Regan better)

I think I prefer it in the middle, esp Calla Regan and Adara Regan (or what about Helena or Juliet as fn's?). When I see Regan, I automatically think RAY-gan and trendy, and former Pres. Reagan, and kre8iv spellings (Raegan, Reaggyn, etc.). But I love Regan (REE-gan) and the Shakespeare connection. But there's also the Exorcist connection, too. :( So I think it's best in the midddle.

Love Reaghan (Ree-gan), but I think that in any spelling people are going to pronounce it like the President & the character in King Lear (which is Ray-ghen)and so I'm not sure that I'd want to use, but in keeping with the Shakespearean theme here are my suggestions for mns:
Portia
Cordelia
Juliet
Anyways, I'm trying to push it on my DH as mn, but I'd rather use Marlowe (William's dear friend)

It's pronounced ray-gan in King Lear? I've never heard that ... I haven't seen the play, but hearing people talking about it, they've always said ree-gan. Not that I'm arguing, just surprised!

That sucks. I prefer REE-gan. This site has the spelling of Regan pron. as REE-gan and refers to King Lear in the description. Maybe it's a matter of preference? Who knows how Shakespeare REALLY pronounced it anyway? LOL

I think it's a cute name.

At the risk of revealing my lack of shame at my own lowbrow-ness, I'm not reminded of Shakespeare in the least -- I'm just reminded strongly of the little girl who's possessed in The Exorcist.

That doesn't turn me off the name, though; it's just not quite my style.
