[Facts] Re: Magdalene

Magdalene means "of Magdala" as it says in the database entry (click hyperlink).Nora does not have a meaning of its own - it is a former nickname for Eleanor, which has two possible meanings, either as an individual name or as a form of Helen (follow the Eleanor hyperlink for details).Unfortunately, etymology is an inexact science, and we can't give a single, quick meaning for every name.Another name which could take Nora as a nickname is Elanora, which is a place name in an Australian Aboriginal language (I think it means seashore but I can't remember!). The resemblance between Elanora and Eleanor is co-incidental.:-)
