[Opinions] Shiloh
This name has always been someone on my favourites list for both genders, and I was thinking of some combinations ...WDYT of Shiloh Eleanora (el-ee-a-nohr-a) / Shiloh Eliana for a girl and Shiloh Stephan (steff-an) / Shiloh Rowan for a boy?I lean towards it more on a girl, because the "oh" ending is quite unusual in that context, but having said that, Shiloh Rowan is my favourite of all the combinations.

Since it is a male biblical name, I much prefer it on a boy. Your two Shiloh male combos are great!

Still trying to clarify whether it was used as a male name in Biblical times or just a placename adopted in modern times ... Do you know the answer to that? Thanks,
Elinor

I only like Shiloh on a boy. The sound is quite masculine to me--the -oh ending is particularly masculine to me.I do think of the dog, but as I haven't seen the movie or read the book (I've only seen ads for the former), the link isn't prohibitive. That said, Shiloh Eleanora and Shiloh Eliana sound OK. The L sounds are a bit close together for my ears in both combos, though. Shiloh Rowan and Shiloh Stephen both sound great, but I slightly prefer Shiloh Rowan.Miranda

I love the name Shiloh (for a boy only) even though I do know the story of the dog. Thats one story! no need to completely throw out a name cause one kids book has a dog with that name it...we'd be losing a lot of names if we did that with everyone.

I like it for either gender...but more as a middle name. Actually I prefer it on a boy.Shiloh Jeremiah is a nice combo.

While I like the sound of the name I don't care for it, partially because I knew an annoying guy named Shiloh. Sorry, I don't care for any of your combos though I like Shiloh Rowan the best.

I find Shiloh very weird on a girl (cf meaning).

Shiloh is a male biblical name. I guess it's uncommon enough that you could use it on a girl without it being an issue, but it would be non-traditional. I prefer Shiloh Eleanora and Shiloh Rowan.

I was under the impression it didn't belong to any person in the Bible, only a place, and was adopted as a unisex first name in modern times? I'm not arguing - you're bound to know more about Biblical names than I do as they're really not my field at all - just wanting to clarify :-)

I took it from this site. Here's the entry:SHILOH m
Usage: English
Pronounced: SHIE-lo
Means "he who is to be sent" in Hebrew. This phrase from the Old Testament (see Genesis 49:10) is often understood to refer to the Messiah.

Aaah ... See, I figured that since it doesn't say "Biblical" under usage (which is only used for names actually borne by *people* in the Bible), it was a modern adoption of the placename, and it certainly goes both ways gender-wise nowadays. I'll do some more research though :-)

I think Shiloh is adorable! I like it better for a girl, but I can see it on a boy. I like Shiloh Eliana and Shiloh Rowan.

It's a book and a movie. I had to read the book in 3rd grade, but I refused to. Go to a movie website at look it up.
I hope I didn't sound rude! I didn't mean it that way if you took it that way!

Oh no, I didn't think you were rude at all :-) I'm glad to know if it's a no-no ... Thank goodness I'm just speculating about names (not pregnant or anything). It'd be unfortunate to find out after giving the name to a baby lol ...
