I prefer Mike as a nn for Michael. Apart from the anti-Irish slur, Mick reminds me of "taking the mick out of someone."

Mick is my favorite nn for Michael. It's much less common than Mike and it sounds nicer, imo.

It isn't very nice, in my opinion. Mick is an old but still used, quite derogatory term for an Irish person.

I love it.That's probably something to do with the fact that I've become slightly obsessed with the show Moonlight lately.

Well, I like the idea but I also know that in the US it was used as a racial slur for the Irish. I would think it doesn't matter, as it really isn't used nowadays and if it is it is similiar to calling someone Scottie or Tex.
I think it is a cute nickname for Michael.

Really?I would never have known that. :-/ I just recently watched a movie with a guy named Mick and decided I liked the name.

actually...Tex and Scottie were not usually considered pejorative terms. Just descriptive nns like Red or Slim. Mick is more on a par with wop or kraut.

My friend's mum, who grew up in Ireland, would always complain about the fact that when she came to England, everyone thought it was perfectly okay to refer to her as Mick or Paddy, even to her face, although they'd never dream of using wop, kraut, or any other racially abusive terms.

Agree.

I think Mick makes a nice alternative to the overused Mike.

I actually quite like it :) Michael is a great name, and Mick is so underused compared to Mike IMO.

It's my favorite Michael nn :)

As a full name?
I don't like it as a full name but think it's a nice nickname.
