Hmm... I think you should probably have taken into account that the parents of the babies on the list are from all different backgrounds (in both ethnic and religious senses) before you posted this. I posted about a bunch of names from the Scottish Forenames 2008 list but I left out the ones with what you could call strange spellings (unless they were really obviously meant to be a 'unique' spelling) because of this reason. Other than that...'I want to name my daughter after expensive jewellery even though I live on a council estate and all my jewellery comes from Argos: '
I very much doubt someone matching this description would call their child Opal or Sapphire, I think they're quite high class names...

As I have said below, I do realise that a lot of these names are legit names in their own ethnicities, and I am not criticising that, I am just pointing out the humourous connotations that I'm sure several other people will in their lifetimes, as the children have been born in an English-speaking country. No offence was intended, as I said in my original post.S xx

Oh don't get me wrong, *I* wasn't offended, but these days we all have to be careful what we say/write/type and really think about it first...
people get so easily upset nowadays over just about anything (and most of the time nothing!) it makes me :-(

I am soooooo against Helle! Some of those names are so funny and horrible haha lol. I can't believe someone named their child Helle. Considering all the bad connotations to it. I don't care if the woman states she worships Hell or not or whatever her reason was. I don't think she should have put her child through that. :( My opinon anyways. I don't think people should name their children names that have super evil connotations. There are millions of names. So it can be avoided. The child will probably change their name when their 18 anyways.I like:

Helle is a female character in Greek mythology and a Danish diminutive of Helga. It does not refer to the Christian Hell. It is not an evil name.
vote up1
Oh I understand that! Thanks for explaining that to me. But I still believe others may reference it to the other Hell. Most kids won't be familar with Greek mythology.

Lol! I think the strangest ones are misspelt words like Daisie, Rubie and Poppie. They just look odd and I can imagine the child will always be correcting people.I blame Dannii Minogue for starting the trend with the double "ii" at the end, perpetuated by Jordan (mother of Princes Tiamii). Amii looks ridiculous!I'm pretty certain that these names are African;
Adedolapo
Anjolaoluwa
Ifunanyachukwu
Mofaratioluwa
Ne-Osahanoze
Nmabiazirije
Oluwadamilola - This name makes me think of Damilola Taylor and he was Nigerian. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damilola_Taylor
Tamunobelema
WarnakulasuriyaI also think Aryan is a legit name, possibly from India. Perhaps I'll ask about it on the Facts board.I always thought Zaffira would be a good name for a person. I read somewhere it's "sapphire" in another language, possibly Spanish.

Some nitpicks- Emmanuela is a genuine feminine form of Emmanuel, and Evania is a name which is unconnected to the name Evan.- Virginia and Georgia are first names before place names, and Memphis is a female character in mythology.- Pagan is a word used to refer to various religions. It is not the opposite of religious names, and it is certainly unjust to say it is the opposite of virtue names.

I agree with Andromache -- I found the original post immensely offensive.

As I said, it was meant in a light-hearted way. I am aware that a lot of the names are legit names, e.g. Mercedes was a name before it was a car, etc. I am also sure that some of those names are legit names in other ethnicities. But, to an English speaker, some are amusing. It doesn't mean I have anything against the people who chose the names. Don't take political correctness too far.Merry Christmas to everyone, whether you laughed or not!S xx

I'm pretty sure they're African. I'm also pretty sure the OP is an idiot. A lot of the descriptions used were offensive and ignorant.
