This seems inspired by the mouse movie. It's a surname. Ick.

I don't like it at all. Not only does it look pretentious, but it's mispronounced.

Hang on. Should it not be pronounced duh-ver-UH? But then again, Devereux isn't a proper French name, so I don't think the rules of French pronunciation apply. I think the French would be D'Evreux, which is pronounced duh-VRUH. (But I'm not a native French speaker (I only learn it in school), so don't take my word for it!)Anyway, I don't really like the name. It sounds too much like a surname for my tastes, and if it's not proper French, why does it have this French spelling? In my opinion, it's illogical. But anyway, there are worse names out there. Devereux could work as a first name.

Pronounced: Dev-er-OH (it's French):D

That doesn`t seem rightIt would only be Dev-er-OH if it were spelled Devereaux. This spelling comes out as Dev-er-euh, the last syllable being similar to the sound you make when you say "eurrr, I don`t know the answer".

The spellings and pronunciations of names that have been adopted into English from other languages don't always add up logically.I've always heard it with the dev-ə-ROH pronunciation.

OopsI have always heard this pronounced in English as Dev-e-ROH so that is what I automatically went to but I think that in French it would be more like Dev-e-R(L)EW. I'm studying French and I think that's right. Anyway, I don't think this is used as a name in France.
