Apple
Apple got mentioned on the "Naming Pet Peeves" thread, and I had wanted to bring it up. I realize that it is a bit late, I guess I don't follow these things, but I found out 2 days ago that Gwyneth Paltrow named her daughter Apple.
What do you guys think of this? Good-bad? Cute- terrible? Typical star baby name?
Does she go by Apple Paltrow or Apple Martin? Has a MN become known to public?I really can't say I like it. I'm struggling to make my mind up, because Apple SOUNDS nice, it is a nice sounding word. But I do not think it is a name, or should be a name. I can't help but feeling that celebrities who name their children such unusual and creative things seem to take for granted that the child will grow up to become something in show business, because there such names are a bonus. If Apple becomes a popsinger, then... sure, fine. But if Apple wants to become a lawyer, or professor, or doctor.... I guess I cannot imagine the name Apple growing with the girl. An adult Apple is difficult to picture in reality.

I don't care for it as a name, but I find it better than, say, something completely made up (Shaquandelle, for instance) or terribly misspelled (like Gennniphurr). I recently 'heard' that Gwyneth Paltrow is pregnant again (or maybe it's just a rumor?). All I could think of was 'What are they going to name this one, Banana?' LOL. But, actually, having seen pictures of their little girl and hearing her name several times, it's "grown" on me a bit. Not that I'd ever use it, but like I said, it could be worse. BTW, I didn't know the history behind Coco Arquette's name. That makes it slightly better imo. But they still could've used Courteney as her mn or named her something else and used Coco as a nn. Coco just reminds me of a small dog or a stripper! I think I prefer Apple as a given name, actually!

I don't mind it but it's really not my style. I already knew a little girl named Apple--she has to be at least 10 by now-- so I wasn't too thrown off.

Mum to Hayley Anne. :)I think Apple (or any other fruit name) is cute as a nick name, but not as a proper name. :P

I honestly like Apple, i think its sweet. To me it fits in with names such as Daisy, Lily, Poppy, Honey etc..I find names such as Shandy, Cherry, Brandy etc.. to be much more distastfull!~~~~~~~~~~ Bex ~~~~~~~~~~~

I don't care for it at all. Paula Yates named one of her daughters Peaches Honeyblossom I believe. Pretty tacky imo.

My prediction:Apple is going to be a cocaine addicted model with a reality show.
The name will suit her.:)

Wow. For someone "not into stereotyping", you have quite a strong prediction there ;-)_____________________________________________________________________Elinor'Why do people with closed minds, always open their mouths?'

I have to admit that Apple has grown on me-when I first heard it I almost died! Now I think it is very sweet sounding and a nature name like many others I suppose. But that said...it is still hard to picture on an actual person for me. I can picture it on a little girl-like Apple Martin. The name seems to suit her right now. But what about when she's 23? Or 40? It just seems kind of funny to picture a grown woman answering to Apple! As a nickname it would have been cute. What about someday when she's-"Auntie Apple"??! Geez!! Celebrities try so hard to be cool but they should think about if the name will truly grow with the child and be as "cool" when they're adults.

I personally don't care for Apple, but as "word" transfers go I suppose fruit tree names are only a bit more eccentric than flowers. After all, there are hundreds of women named Cherry in the USA.

Apple Martin brings to mind a(Green) Apple Martini. Not my style at all

I actually think Apple is kind of cute, but I would NEVER name a kid that. It's kind of a guilty pleasure name for me :)

I seem to be the only person in the world who likes this name on a person! To me, Apple is on a par with "Poppy" and "Lily" - a sweet, delicate nature-y kind of name.
Also, I could imagine the name Apple on some kind of redheaded business woman. I like inproper-sounding names, like Daisy on some kind of teenage goth, or Winifred on a small baby. It gives the name more depth and breaks stereotypes, IMHO! ^ ^

I don't like Apple as a name at all.I do believe she goes by Apple Martin. Her middle names are Allison and Blythe if i'm not mistaken. I'm not sure in which order they appear.Check Out Blinkyou.com for thousands of custom glitterz and layouts

Apple Blythe Allison Martin -- mns are for her grandmothers.I don't like it a whole lot, but I don't think its the craziest names ever, especially paired with such down-to-earth mns. Shortly after Apple was bourn, Courtney Cox-Arquette named her baby Coco Rily Arquette. That one horrified me because the two named clashed in style so terribly and neither sounds ver=y professional (or even pretty, imo). Apple Blythe Allison is quirky, but it does sound nice, and the girl has options, should she get sicks of "you the apple of my eye" jokes/comments.Arcadia

It's just an object. It doesn't mean what you think

Apple MNsThank you.
I was hoping for that answer, knowing Gwyneth's mother is Blythe. It sounds a whole lot better with the MN's, and yes, she has options then.
Coco Rily ( I do not mean to offend anyone, do not attack me, this is open for opinions) makes me cringe. Honestly, that is... not good. (But better than Coco Rily Cox, hoh!)

Didn't Courtney Cox name her daughter Coco as a way of honoring herself? COurtney COx? I still think she could've done better...

Actually ...Coco is named after Courteney's Mom, who is also a Courteney. Her name is Courteney Coupeland (not sure of the spelling) and often goes by the nn Coco whereas Courteney Cox goes by Cee Cee within her family. She wanted to continue the naming after trend but neither her nor David felt that another Courteney was appropriate given her fame (she wants her daughter to be her own person without that weight attached to herself).
