Pronunciations I Find Unusual
Seen on a YouTube quiz show today:
Denise - ending with a Z sound
Gillian - starting with a hard G sound
Aladin - a woman's name pronounced exactly like Aladdin (I would have said it more like EL-ih-din then ah-LAD-in)

Denise with a Z is the French pronunciation: deNEEZ

I didn't know that. So it's not so strange after all. Thanks for letting me know.

Leslie pronounced with a Z sound instead of S.
Levine pronounced like Levigne “luh-VEEN” instead of “LEH-vine”
Aria (like the opera) pronounced “AIR-ee-uh”
Casey pronounced like Cassie
Tiller pronounced like Tyler…hm
Overall not intuitive and could easily be spelled the way you want them pronounced.

I've never heard Leslie, or Lesley, pronounced with an S sound. And I've never heard Levine pronounced in any way except luh-VEEN.

That’s interesting. It must be highly geographical because I remember thinking Adam Levine’s name must be a stage name because it was pronounced wrong from what I had previously heard! 😅
