June
I've recently met a few Junes and I was curious about when it was popular. I was surprised to see that's it gaining in popularity. Mae is making a comeback, but May isn't. April is declining in popularity, however it wasn't even used as a name until 1940s.I took a quick look at the other months.
January only charted for a few years in the 1970s, I met one. Any ideas on why it charted suddenly and then dropped?
August is high for bos and just started charting for girls. No other months are charting although I can see September, November, and December becoming popular.Thoughts?

Could the show The Handmaid’s Tale be contributing to the resurgence of the name’s popularity? Because the protagonist’s name there is June.

It sounds quirky-trendy to me, circa 2007...that's when the movie Juno came out...Walk the Line also had June Carter as a main character and there was a movie called Junebug in 2005...I relate it to Juniper (and maybe also August, Sage, Marigold, Luna, Pearl stylewise).I remember my sister told me if she had a daughter, she liked the name June. That would have been 2009.I've never met any old ones. It's likable but not something I'd pick. I'd rather January for a girl's month name maybe, and I'd also pick Augustine or Jane over June. But I'd consider Junius.

I love the vintage or retro feel that month names have. I would've said peak 1950 for June but apparently it is earlier than that. June is my favourite for girls (Junie or Juno are sweet nn) and May (or Mae) is lovely, too. I like the Mae spelling - it reminds me of old Hollywood actresses, such as Mae West. August, nn Augie or Gus is my favourite for boys. I like April for girls, as well. July I could see working for boys, with JuJu or Jules as nicknames.I like the idea of January (nn Jan), November (nn Nova) and December (nn Deci) for girls, and October (nn Toby) for boys, however I'd prefer them as character names. You start to loose me around September (nn Tembi? Sep? nah), February (nn Feb? Bru? nope), or March. Marchie I don't like. I'd rather hear March used as a middle name. Overall for the most part I prefer the shorter month names as the longer ones feel too heavy for everyday use.

I was born in June but my middle name is May. :P
I've only met one June. I can see it on a lot of ages. I think my first exposure to June as a name was Junie B Jones-- at least I assumed Junie was short for June. And is there a character in something called "Aunt June"? Those two associations make it seem like it could easily be young or old to me. And I know Juniper is fairly popular and that has June as a nickname. Juno is also maybe getting popular? I've met one January (and it was a translation). I could see it being more popular if "Jan" comes back as a desirable nickname.I think Mae looks more "vintage" than May so that could be why it's making a comeback. Not sure why May isn't still popular though, it seems more neutral than Mae. Still cutesy but not so specific. I'm surprised April isn't still popular. I could see March being a popular middle name after the month and Little Women. I've definitely met several Augusts, all boys. (Lots of girls named Autumn though. The "Gus" part of August sounds boyish.) July seems like it should be a name because of Julie, Julian, Julius, etc. but I guess the "ly" ending makes it too 'monthy' and not enough 'namey'?I could see any of the -ember months being a middle name. Also October. As first names they'd need a nickname (Nova, Ember, Deci) but even then I'd prefer them as middle names since they're so wordy.

The only June I know is in her 90s, I know an April in her 50s and an 18 year old. My cousin has June as her mn, she's in her 50s. Don't recall anyone with the name May

I know of a June, she would be about 4 or 5 now. Named after her great-grandma. Otherwise all the Junes I've met have been 90+

I had a friend named June in high school. Actually, we're still in touch through FB. I also met a September when I worked at the nursing home back in...2008? She was 25/26, then.

I know basically nothing about name popularity, so unfortunately I can’t give any insight on that—I’d guess May and April aren’t as popular since they used to be very common, now they’re too ‘mom-like’? Mae instead is cool and trendy, but I have no idea why June is getting popular in that case—but I do really like month names! Especially ones that aren’t often used as names, like December and February, though I also like April and August. June isn’t a favorite of mine but it has a lot of really cute nns like Junie and Junebug so it raises up for me :D
