According to Ellis Island a man called Onofrio BELIZO arrived at New York in 1912 he came from MOLA a town near BARI in Southern Italy.A possibility?

Another problem with the Italian hypothesis is that most American Belisos are in California as you can see at http://www.gens-us.net/map/genera.html?cognome=BELISO. This would strongly indicate that they arrived through Mexico or Central America. Also, if you check out the name at http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp, you'll see that the first names are all Hispanic until very recently.
