Roland Otterbjörk's Svensks förnamn says that Finn is the same as the English word "Finn", and that the ethnic name may possibly go back to an ancient word that meant "wanderer."

I've also read that Finn could mean "Saami" in old Swedish. And the Saami are certainly wandering, with their reindeers.
