I actually have met a woman named Persis who would be about 90 now if she was still living. Personally I like it.
Persis was regularly used in colonial New England. When I was researching the history of the use of the name Pearl in the USA, I found several claimed instances of women named Pearl in the index to the U.S. census on Ancestry.com, but when I checked the original records they were all misreadings of other names, with Persis being by far the most common name the indexers mistakenly read as "Pearl."
