[Opinions] Re: Bambi
in reply to a message by Sabrina Fair
I'm afraid that although the use of Bambi as a girls' name in the USA actually predates the children's story about the deer (which itself was written long before Disney turned it into a cartoon), it is probably the most "blonde bimbo" stereotyped name in modern American culture, so I'd find it difficult to apply to a real child. If you really, really love the name and have good reasons for it other than "I just like the way it sounds" that can help make your daughter proud of it, go ahead an use it, but know that this is one name you will have to work hard to ensure that the teasing your daughter gets doesn't get to be too much for her.
Ironically, the only woman named Bambi I ever met personally was a rather masculine-dressing out-and-proud lesbian. :)
