I run into this tangle every now and then; my name is Jean, and as I live in a French-speaking area, it's occasionally thought that
-1.I have a male name,or
-2.I'm not me, as for example, when I present a cheque at the bank, the teller asks,"Is this your husband? Or your son?"
If I spelled the name Jeanne, I'd avoid all this, but my name is as my parents gave it to me, and that's how it will stay.
