[Facts] Lanya (Taiwanese) etymology
Lanya is a feminine name found mostly in Taiwan. Where does the Taiwanese name come from in terms of etymology?

Forebears does point to it being used in Taiwan (www.forebears.io/x/forenames/lanya). However, on LinkedIn, out of 1000 results, only 8 are in Taiwan (see https://www.linkedin.com/search/results/people/?firstName=lanya&geoUrn=%5B%22104187078%22%5D). Forebears often has problems with Chinese names because the name order in Chinese is Surname Forename, so it might be one of those cases? I'm not sure, to be honest...
I updated my entry of it's usage to Taiwanese (?)
First think to find out is of the name is Taiwanese Chinese or from a Taiwanese Aboriginal language. Identifying the language is the most important part of etymological work.
For Chinese names the standard procedure is to identify the Han characters used for writing the name and reporting their meanings. Note, that a simplified Romanisation ignoring tone usually merges several different Chinese names into one.
For Aboriginal names you need dictionaries of the source language to identify a meaning.
This is all I can help here.

Well sadly the only information I have is that it's a name that's rare and mostly used in Taiwan in Taipei and the surrounding areas.
Well, in this case it is the best to leave the Origin and Meaning section blank and put all information you were able to find in the Notes section, for later revision (either by yourself or another editor of this site).
