It is a variant of Appourchaux and other variants include Apourchaux, Apourcheau, Apourcheaux, Appourceaux, Appourcheau, Appourchaud, and Apourchaud (many rare and/or historical). It is most likely related to the French word 'pourceau' meaning "pig, swine" and originally referred to pig breeders.
