Mr. Markowitz, there are only one solution about your surname. It is Slav surname. Comes from ex-Yugoslavia or from Poland. I am from Serbia and lot of my friends have that surname. Even unpopular wife of ex-president of Serbia Slobodan Milosevic have name Mira MARKOVIC.
