Baillie family existance?
We have records of my family being descended from a man by the last name of Baillie. Supposedly there's no longer any memebers of this clan in existance(Well, it's a sept of Clan Chattan), but we're descended legitimately from him and have records of it. Does anyone what the heck that means? Also, does anyone know the meaning of it? It's a Scottish last name from the Highlands.

I can find no evidence of a Baillie link with Clan Chattan, though some Baillies of Lowland origin settled in the Highlands, Inverness and Ross. The name has not died our in Scotland but flourishes there. As for a clan connection the Baillies seem able to stand on their own, having their own tartan and a long history of their own as a lowland surname.

However, the suggestion that Baillie could derive from the name Balliol can be ignored, Marc's is the accepted explanation.
