Your surname is a derivation of the given name Humphrey.
Humphrey means "peaceful warrior" from Germanic 'hun' (= "warrior") and 'frid' (= "peace"). The Normans introduced this name to Britain. A famous bearer of this name was the American actor Humphrey Bogart, who starred in 'The Maltese Falcon' and 'Casablanca'.

You are correct, however I have more. After tha Battle of Hastings in 1066, the name Humphrey was given to a Norman warrior named Homme Vrai, who was a friend and follower of William the Conqueror. He was also given a large land grant in Sussex.
