Does anyone know anything about the surname Contessa? It's been in my family for generations, it's Italian. I thought it had something to do with the surname Costa...but now I think not...Any help would be great!!!!

Countess?

According to my regular American English dictionary, contessa is a rarely used word for countess. It comes from the Italian "contessa" which also means countess.
